Long story short, my sister is buying a new car in the near future.
She's decided on the Volvo XC60 over the Lincoln MKC and Mazda CX-5. The problem is that all the used T6s in the area are priced too high to be worth buying used, but the new T6s are out of her budget. I stumbled across a new 2015.5 T5 AWD at our local Volvo dealer that is discounted to be in her price range and has the features she wants.
My question is whether the XC60 feels under powered with the T5. We drove one with the 3.2 inline six (the former base engine) when the XC60 first came out, but it felt under powered. We drove the T6 (300 hp) last week and that felt great. The T5 AWD ("new" engine for 2015.5) uses the same 2.5 turbo inline five that Volvo has been using for years. In fact, my C30 has the same engine, albeit with 227 hp compared to 250 hp in the XC60. However, the XC60 is about 1000 lbs heavier than the C30 with only 23 more hp. All the reviews of the 2015.5 XC60 I've found have been with the T6 or Drive-E engines, none with the T5 AWD, so I haven't heard how it feels to drive.
Thanks in advance.

I have a short test drive experience with the 2014 XC60 T6 R-Design, what do you wanna know?

But I've read that those V8's catastrophically fail, though...

Huh, I heard they are the most reliable ones. The smaller turbo ones are prone to failure, the Yamaha V8 is quite tough.

Interesting as I've heard the exact opposite (the T5 and T6 are bullet proof). Methinks there's a quality issue with information on the internet...(this applies to pretty much everything, now that I think about it...)

I was mainly wanting feedback on the T5 engine, not the T6, but since you offered: How much body roll is there with the R-Design? The standard XC60 has less body roll than you would expect for 9.1 in of ground clearance, but it was still present. Does the R-Design have any noticeable body roll with the stiffer springs and (I think) different damper geometry?

New XC90 is out.
New XC90 is amazing.
New XC90 makes old XC90 seem like a dinosaur.
New XC90 is too expensive.
Sad.

It didn't feel like there was much roll, it's a very composed ride and handles better than any modern SUV I've been in, bit that isn't saying much. Power is pretty much on tap whenever you want it. I would assume that the regular T5 might have a little bit more roll, but I can't say for sure. Overall, the R-Design had tight cornering characteristics and is very easy to drive.
Again, I can't comment on the T5 as I only test drove the other.

Doesn't need to be a new one.

All I know is about half that second paragraph was acronyms and numbers.

New T5 is a 2.0 4 cylT not the "old 5cyl from the C30" and the T6 is also a 2.0 4cyl but T and SC. 2015.5 XC60 drive-E is a very good vehicle offering good safety and economy.

I went from a 2012 c30 with the T5 to the 2015.5 T5 AWD. I have had zero issues with the swap. I regularly have 4 adults and luggage in the car driving threw AZ with the AC on high and have issues with power for passing and just cruising along at highway speeds. I also get better mileage then I was in my C 30 with the same motor.
